BOOK OF THE MONTH AUGUST 2007
THE POWER OF NOW
by Eckhart Tolle
Synopsis
To make the journey into 'The Power of Now' we will need to leave our analytical mind and ego behind. From the first chapter we move into a significantly higher altitude where one breathes the air of the spiritual. Although the journey is challenging, Echkart offers simple language and a question and answer format to guide us. The words themselves are signposts.
For many of us there are new discoveries to be made along the way. We are not mind; we can find our way out of psychological pain; authentic human power is found by surrendering to the Now. We also find out that the body is one of the keys to entering inner peace, as are the silence and space all around us. These access points can all be used to bring us into the Now., the present moment, where problems do not exist. It is here we find our joy, are able to embrace our true selves. It is here we discover that we are already complete and perfect.
Reviews
Eckhart Tolle speaks of a profound transformation of human consciousness, available not in some distant future, but right here and now. We are shown how to free ourselves from enslavement to the mind, and enter into this enlightened state, which is characterised by a profound inner peace and intense conscious presence. Even more importantly, Tolle gives us the most eloquent and practical guidelines on how to sustain this new state of consciousness in everyday life. The teachings given in this book have been spreading round the world like wildfire and, when you read it, you will see why! (Cygnus Review)
I have read numerous books on meditation and at various times in my life found it to be very helpful. However, recently I have found my practive faltering, unsure of where to go next. This book has helped me to re-focus and to find a new way forward. Eckhart's book is easy to read and full of wisdom. In it he anticipates many of the questions that you may have and so is able to help you avoid the frustration of partial understanding. For me the idea of focusing on the inner body has been particularly helpful. Although in many ways the idea is not new to me, somehow Eckart has expressed it in a way that brought new clarity for me. I highly recommend this book whether you are an experianced meditator or a beginner. (Inspirational Friends Review)
