BOOK OF THE MONTH JULY
THE DARK SIDE OF THE LIGHT CHASERS
by Debbie Ford
Synopsis
What are you hiding from yourself?
Why do we find ourselves disproportionately angry with the selfishness of a friend, the laziness of a colleague, the arrogance of a family member - or even the rudeness of a stranger? Why to the same old things get to us so easily and so intensely? Our 'same old things', Debbie Ford explains, are clues to our dark sides - and to the emotions and traits that we fear most in ourselves.
In this enlightening guide, she explains how - consciously or unconsciously - we hide and deny our dark sides, rejecting those aspects of our true natures rather than giving ourselves the freedom to live authentically. Here she shows that it is possible ot acknowledge and accept our so-called weaknesses - and that in fact, these qualities may prove to be important, hidden strengths. Perhaps a touch of 'laziness' is just what the workaholic needs; perhaps some judicious 'selfishness' can save us from exhaustion and resentment. Through the illuminating stories and practical exercises in this book, Debbie Ford shows us how to reconcile our darker impulses, find the fights they offer and reclaim our wholeness again
Reviews
Our shadow side is something that we often prefer to ignore, perhaps refusing to acknowledge its existance even to ourselves. If we do acknowledge the aspects of ourself that we consider to be 'bad' then we usually try to overcome them, to do battle with them or lock them away in a box and hope they go away. In this book Debbie Ford suggests that we need to bring these aspects of ourselves out into the light of day, embrace them and learn from them. Only by doing this can we be trully whole. The book contains many inspiring examples and exercises to help you begin this process of transformation. This is a book worth working through a number of times over the years, as each time you will discover something new about who you are. (Inspirational Friends Review)
