BOOK OF THE MONTH
THE ARTISTS WAY – A SPIRITUAL PATH TO HIGHER CREATIVITY
by Julia Cameron
Synopsis
This is a practical, guided course on making contact with the creative force that dwells inside each of us. It is a spiritual path, using creativity as its key. As readers we are required to make a personal commitment to following the course over twelve weeks, putting aside time for reading, writing daily “morning pages”, doing specific tasks and exercises and keeping a weekly “artist’s date” with ourselves. Julia Cameron explains how we can overcome our core negative beliefs and find the huge source of inspiration we all hold within us. Over the 12 weeks, she concentrates on helping us recover a sense of safety, identity, power, integrity, possibility, abundance, connection, strength, compassion, self-protection, autonomy and faith.
Julia Cameron is a writer and artist, and runs workshops to help free people’s creativity. This book is not just for artists, it is for anyone who would like to live more creatively and free themselves of any blocks or negative beliefs they may have picked up.
Reviews
This is a wonderful book, written with clarity and generosity. On a personal level I made many surprising discoveries about myself while working through the course, some encouraging, some painful, but all ultimately useful. For example, learning to admit to jealousy and how to deal with and let go of it. And learning to trust in my own creativity. It helped me work through a number of issues I was facing while coping with a new baby, major fatigue and trying to juggle too many demands in my life. It helped me sort out the noise in my head and find a clear path for myself. In fact I found it so useful that I used to set my alarm an hour earlier in the morning so that I would have time to write my three morning pages before the chaos of my day began. It was a life-changing journey and, a year and a half after following the course, I still write my pages nearly every day.
