A Public Talk

One of the greatest diseases in today's world is an inability to stop thinking. A lot of our thoughts are accompanied by worrisome feelings, and although we know they are making us tired and unwell, we just can't seem to do anything about it. Sometimes a vicious circle comes into play whereby worry tires us out and because of our tired state, we make more mistakes and worry still more. Raja Yoga meditation offers a means of breaking this negative cycle. It teaches us to practise positive thoughts in our head, and emerge positive feelings in the heart. Regular practice liberates us from unhappiness, exhaustion and ill health and recharges our sense of wellbeing - reminding us what it feels like to be well again.

Neville Hodgkinson is a writer living at the Global Retreat Centre in Oxfordshire, following a career of more that 30 years in full-time newspaper work. His first book, Will To Be Well - the Real Alternative Medicine (Hutchinson, 1986) was one of the first to describe the intimate link between health and happiness in terms of modern scientific findings. His interest in mind-body meditation led him to take up the practice of meditation and spiritual study in the early 1980s, and he has been a student for 29 years with the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University. He is chairman of the Janki Foundation for Global Health Care, a UK-based charity which encourages research and awareness in the field of values and health.
