NUTRITION/NUTRITIONIST

What is a Nutritionist?

We are increasingly coming to discover how important our diet is to our health. There is a confusing array of conflicting advice available in the media, on line, from the government etc. How do we know what will help us keep healthy and what may be making sick? How do we know whether we need to take supplements and if so which supplements to take?

One option is to visit a Nutritionist (sometimes called a Nutritional Therapist), someone who has studied nutrition and can give you advice tailored to your particular needs. Nutritional therapy is using diet to treat and prevent illness, and restore the body to a natural healthy equilibrium. Nutritionists believe that sub-clinical deficiencies of minerals and vitamins are responsible for much disease and weakness in the body.

Examples of conditions resulting from sub-clinical deficiencies include fatigue, lethargy PMS symptoms and susceptibility to colds and viruses.

Success relies upon a multidisciplinary and multidimentional approach, incorporating lifestyle and dietary changes to achieve optimum health and well being. Foods are recommended and some might even be omitted from the diet, as well as dietary supplements and other natural remedies.

What is a Nutritionist session like?

A nutritionist will take a case study, finding out about your current health problems, dietary habits and life style. They may also offer or recommend other tests, such as hair analysis, saliva tests etc. They will then recomend changes to your diet and supplements.

What are the benefits of seeing a Nutritionist?

Good nutrition can help us to be generally healthy and have a strong immune system. It can help in the prevention of certain diseases and may help as part of an overall approach to treating others. Good nutrition is the foundation of good health.

Other Options

There are other individuals who have knowledge about nutrition in general and will be able to offer general advise about diet. These include health educators, dieticians, health advisors etc.
